Social awareness project against online hate

The power of words: they can move us, bring us together, and express love. But at the same time, they can hurt, offend, and push us apart. On the Internet, aggression often dominates among tweets, posts, statuses, and stories.

Social media are indeed virtual spaces, but it’s also true that the people we encounter there are real, and so are the consequences. That’s why, especially online, we need to be mindful of how we use words.

What is the Manifesto of Non-Hostile Communication?

Parole O_Stili promotes the values expressed in the "Manifesto of Non-Hostile Communication," a set of 10 principles designed to redefine how we behave online.

Since its launch in 2017, the Manifesto has taken an extraordinary journey — from wall to wall, across social media, through schools, universities, offices, and numerous companies.

I recognize that what I say or write can have real consequences, big or small.

Share with care

I share texts and images only after reading, evaluating, and understanding them.

Ideas can be debated. People should be respected

Those whose views and opinions differ from mine are not enemies to defeat.

An insult is not an argument

I reject offensive or aggressive language, even when it supports my opinion.

The mission of Parole O_Stili

The non-profit organisation Parole O_Stili was founded in Trieste in August 2016. Its mission is to raise awareness and educate internet users to choose non-hostile forms of communication.

Who is it for?

Parole O_Stili speaks to everyone aware that “virtual is real,” and that hostility online has serious, concrete, and lasting consequences in people’s lives.

Who do we work with?

Parole O_Stili collaborates with schools, universities, companies, associations, and national and local institutions to spread a positive attitude in online communication and promote greater awareness of individual responsibility.
